BACKGROUND
In the Heian era it was said that the capital, Kyou, was protected by the four guardian gods -- Seiryuu, Suzaku, Byakko, and Genbu -- and the one god who presided over them all, Ryuujin, the White Dragon.
Ryuujin no Miko, the priestess of the dragon god, has eight guardians called the Hachiyou. Each of these guardians is attuned to the Heaven or Earth aspect of one of these four gods, and watch over Ryuujin no Miko.
